ABOUT US

KONEMA WOMEN is a Kenyan coalition of feminist Maasai leaders who believe it is a human right for
women, girls and trans-people to live safe, healthy, educated lives, have economic freedom, and define
their own purpose.

We draw from 4 rural communities: Kileleoni, Aljabit-Ngerende, Emaro and Emarti.
“Konema” was first established as a mixed-gender CBO in 2019, to advocate for economic
empowerment and against GBV. To help fund our community empowerment programs, the women
started a Goat Farm and Breeding Centre that became profitable.

Then, we realized our voices were not
being valued or heard in mixed-gender groups, and in order to use our profits to benefit girls and women,
we must be “Konema Women”
